Reading Club

How dementia friendly reading groups can re-stimulate the joy and pleasure of reading

Reading groups are a great way to give people an opportunity to socialize, take turns and contribute to a group without putting pressure on the participants to think of something to say. We use interactive read-aloud books for people with dementia featuring large print and colourful illustrations. Time is taken during the reading to respond to comments and questions about the book and everyone is given an opportunity to express their opinion about the story.

  •    promotes a common interest in the group
  •    stimulates and challenges neural pathways
  •    promotes inclusion and companionship
  •    is a wonderful and timeless activity
